Every item in the collection we offer has been commissioned by us for production by a small number of select producers of high quality handmade ceramics in Bolesławiec, Lower Silesia, Poland.
Bolesławiec, and Lower Silesia more broadly, have a long-standing tradition of handmade ceramics, pottery and folk art. To a considerable extent this tradition is maintained by, and predominantly employs, female artisans and artists of all ages.
Some of the items in the collection we offer are signed by the individual who created them. We cherish and value this visible connection between the artist and the piece.
Since every item is produced by hand, even those of the same designated shape and design may vary very slightly. This makes every item unique and, in our opinion, of greater value as a result.
We do not offer "seconds", all of our range is of the first quality category. Glazing ceramics/pottery necessitates there to be a small area on each item that does not have glaze applied. This will be a discreet area e.g. the tip of the handle of a spoon or the ring on the bottom of a cup, mug or plate. This is required to prevent an item from becoming welded to the kiln during firing. These small unglazed areas are not defects.
We love the collection we offer and are day-to-day users of our ceramics ourselves. In our experience they are robust and do not require to be handled other than with normal reasonable care. When using oven rated items avoid thermal shock e.g. by avoiding placing a hot casserole dish in water/under running water etc. We also recommend soaking baked on residues overnight and sponging off rather than using abrasive pads, creams or powders.
The durability of our collection represents great value for money but for us it goes beyond that. Whilst we don't have the science to back it up, we believe it stands to reason that anything which puts off the day when an object needs to go to a landfill and be replaced has to be good for the environment, our planet and for all of us, as a result.
All items in the collection are also highly decorative and day-to-day use is not an obligation under the terms of sale! Keeping your collection for best or for decoration breaks no laws or code that we know of! We want everyone to enjoy their purchase however they so wish.
Our experience and that of our customers is that our ceramics are even better when seen and handled in real life and we sincerely hope you will be more than delighted with them. If, however, you are not satisfied with your purchase we offer a refund or replacement as per our terms and conditions of sale.
